Hyundai Will Debut the "Supermini" i20 at Upcoming Paris Auto Show

Though the New Generation i20 has been designed and developed by Hyundai exclusively in Europe, we
at believe the petite hatch will come to America before all is said and done. Perhaps not in 2014, but the new 2015 model shown here might make it to our shores next year.

Three key attributes in particular underline how i20 meets the needs of European consumers: class-leading interior space, a host of high-technology and comfort-enhancing features, and distinctive, refined design. But aren't all those elements the same kind that would appeal economy-minded consumers in the good ol' USA?

We say, yes indeed!

After all, Hyundai has proved it can score with Americans in the luxury end with the Genesis and Equus. And the Korean car-maker has recently won JD Power awards for the Elantra and AccentWhy could they not entice us in the States with a sharply designed mini compact like the i20?

Based on a new platform, New Generation i20 features a 2570 mm wheelbase (that's 101.18 inches—almost two inches longer than the previous i20). The new dimensions will provide European customers with one of the most spacious cabins in the segment. Efficient packaging has created a passenger compartment that can comfortably seat five adults. Combined front and rear legroom is best in class at just under 75 inches. Rear storage space will also best the car's
competitors with the rear seats upright.

It seems logical that American consumers would appreciate class-leading interior space like that as well.

However, only time will tell if the little compact will make it to American dealerships. In the meantime, we will be watching Paris (with great interest) for the i20's debut in early October.

Other features we appreciate about the new i20 are the comfort and the sense of space for driver and passengers provided by a unique-in-class panoramic sunroof. Able to both tilt and fully open, it fills the cabin with natural light and fresh air. Further features add to the refinement and convenience of New Generation i20, including integrated rear-view camera and front and rear LED lighting.
