Will Fiat-Chrysler Kill the Dodge Brand? What Do You Think—Is the Dodge Badge a Dead Duck?

Ward's Auto reported early in summer that the future of Dodge is looking uncertain. Fiat has more or less laid out its game plan for the next few years, and while the Chrysler, Fiat and Jeep lines are set to receive plenty of love, Dodge isn't so lucky. Fiat has already hobbled Dodge significantly by splitting off the brand's trucks into a separate Ram line.

But more recent updates from authoritative sources say Dodge isn't going anywhere. Despite some rumor and speculation over the future of the crosshair grille and the cars that wear it, Dodge brand boss, Tim Kuniskis, sat down with TheDetroitBureau.com, explaining that the marque isn't facing extinction. His sentiments echo those of SRT boss Ralph Gilles, who told a group of enthusiasts in July that "Dodge is here to stay!"

The thing is, Dodge is Chrysler's volume brand—and by a wide margin. Benchmark sales, as recently as this past February show Dodge boasting aggressive growth. Dodge brand sales increased 30%—the largest year-over-year percentage increase of any Chrysler group brand.

Plus more good news for the tried-and-true Dodge brand:
  • Dodge Dart sales increased 8 percent month over month; best sales month since June launch last year
  • Dodge Dart, Ram 1500, Fiat 500 Abarth, and SRT Viper each won a MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice Award
  • Dodge Challenger muscle car sets all-time sales record; sales up 34 percent
  • Dodge Avenger mid-size sedan sets sales record for month of February with 52 percent sales gain
  • Dodge Journey full-size crossover sets sales record for month of February; sales up 21 percent
  • Dodge Durango sales up 38 percent; best February sales since 2006
One hard-working icon of Dodge-Chrysler success story is the often-maligned family-hauling minivan. Well, earlier this month, Chrysler celebrated a whopping 30 years of minivan production with two special editions.

The 2014 Chrysler Town & Country 30th Anniversary Edition starts the Touring-L trim and includes such special touches as 17-inch wheels, unique badging, available Granite Crystal Pearl paint and an interior decked out in black Alcantara and Nappa leather, piano black trim and all the optional bells and whistles bundled in.

The 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan 30th Anniversary Edition, meanwhile, starts off with either the SE or SXT trims and also upgrades with 17-inch alloys as well as color-keyed mirrors and an interior with silver stitching, piano black trim, power everything, and of course, those special badges. Both versions are powered by the same 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with 283 horsepower and a six-speed automatic transmission.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Plug-in Hybrid? Yes, Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus

We understand that this fall, the Frankfurt Motor Show will debut to the world an honest-to-goodness S-Class hybrid sedan that, if Mercedes-Benz history is a relevant benchmark,
should set the standard for luxury-hybrid offerings.

It may not hit Amåerican dealerships until spring 2014 or even the fall of next year, but the car will make history when it does.

Likely to be called the S550 in America, what we've gathered from the various rumors is a forthcoming motor yacht that bests the Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid for the segment's lowest CO2 emissions at 70 g/km (in fact, that's better than a few variants of the Toyota Prius). The big Benz will use a 3.5-liter V6 aided by one electric motor and a battery pack in the floor of the trunk, and it will do 15 to 20 miles on electric power and get from 0-to-60 miles per hour in under six seconds. The model will also get an AMG tailpipe treatment according to patent drawings, and might boast a US combined rating of around 75 miles per gallon.

That's a lot of MPG for a thoroughly luxurious autobahn cruiser that not only delivers you to your destination in style, but does the job in thrifty, green-centric style. How much will this environmentally-friendly luxo-barge cost at your nearest Mercedes-Benz dealer? Well, it's just way too early to tell. But stay tuned to acardealer.com blog and we will update you ahead of the time.

It's interesting to note that according to reliable sources, Mercedes-Benz has sold more hybrids than all other German luxury makers combined in 2012. If the S-Class PHEV unveiled in Frankfurt can stand up to the gossip, we can envision the trend continuing.

Enjoy this video of the recently unveiled Mercedes-Benz S-Class 2014 S400 Hybrid:

Do Undeniable Good-Looks Translate into Sales? Yes They Do in the Case of the Ford Fusion

The four-door mid-size sedan market is about as competitive as any market in the automotive kingdom. Nevertheless, we at acardealer.com think the Ford Fusion is as good as any reasonably-priced foreign or domestic sedan, including the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.

In fact, we'll state flatly that the 2013 Fusion looks better than any family sedan from Toyota, Honda, VW, Suburu, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Nissan and even Kia and Hundyai. And that includes exterior and interior appeal. Another plus? It starts at less than 22K.

No wonder Ford Fusion sales are up 22% compared to last year. The bottom line is, Ford is having a tough time keeping production up with demand. So it is supplementing a new production facility to its Mexico plant in tried-and-true Flat Rock, Michigan. For domestic auto workers, that can't be all bad.

For everyday consumers, the Fusion offers a rare blend of family-friendly features and exhilarating driving manners.

Trim levels consist of base S, midlevel SE and top-of-the-line Titanium. Of course, there are high-tech Hybrid and Energi gas-stingy models.

Standard highlights on the S include full power accessories, air-conditioning and the voice-activated Sync audio/cell phone interface. The SE adds alloy wheels, a power driver seat and a rear seat center armrest, while the Titanium comes with a sport-tuned suspension, keyless ignition/entry, leather upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear parking sensors/camera, the MyFord Touch electronics interface and an upgraded sound system. Major options include a navigation system and an automated parking system.

Three standard gasoline engines are offered with the new Ford Fusion: the carryover 2.5-liter, 175-horsepower inline-4, a 1.6-liter turbocharged four with 178 hp and a performance-minded 2.0-liter turbocharged four with 240 hp. A six-speed automatic is standard except on the 1.6, which can also be had with a six-speed manual. Power is sent to the front wheels on all trims, while the Titanium offers the option of all-wheel drive.

Overall, the Ford Fusion is a modern, mid-size sedan that offers excellent driving dynamics and an appealing design. It’s a more enjoyable driver than the Chevrolet Malibu, Honda Accord, and Toyota Camry, and it comes with more drivetrain options than the other competitors in its market. These forms includes plug-in hybrid versions, three different four-cylinder options—two being Ford’s EcoBoost engines—and a hybrid option.

At cardealer.com, we believe it is an outstanding choice in mid-size sedans.
If you think the Ford Fusion is the right choice for you, we think you deserve the outstanding deals and first-class customer service at Akins Ford in Winder, Georgia. Akins is worth a drive from anywhere in metro Atlanta. But take note. Your friends at Akins are offering sensational opportunities to save on the Ford Fusion right now.
