New 2014 Infiniti Q50 to Debut this Summer. Gee, We Want One!

Priced from 36K+ and sporting loads of standard equipment, the 2014 Infiniti Q50 (we predict) will erase your fond memories of the G37 it replaces. Plus, according to Infiniti, the stylish new sedan will actually cost less than the G. That means the new Q will continue to represent outstanding value in the competitive luxury-sport sedan market.

In standard form, the Q50 is available in base, Premium and Sport trim levels with each offering the option of all-wheel drive for an additional $1,800. All gas-only Q50s come with the automaker's excellent 3.7-liter V6 engine, but stepping over to the Q50 Hybrid gets you a smaller 3.5-liter V6 paired with an electric motor. The Q50 Hybrid, which is available in Premium and Sport trim levels only, will begin at $43,700 for a rear-wheel-drive Sport model. Mileage estimates top 37 on the highway.

Early reports indicate that, in addition to a new name and a new hybrid model, there might be even more changes in store for 2014 Infiniti Q50. Autoweek is reporting that Johan de Nysschen, president of Infiniti, has said that the brand's new entry-level sedan will offer a turbocharged four-cylinder and a diesel engine. Both new engines will come through a partnership between Daimler AG and Renault-Nissan, but initially, the diesel will be offered for European buyers only.

In our mind, that's typical near-sighted thinking for the American market. But who knows. Maybe we'll find out differently in the next two years when the new engine options become available.

One thing we do know for sure. The contemporary design of the new Q50 can't be mistaken for anything but an Infiniti. And we're equally certain the proven performance of this popular Infiniti model will be exhilarating in its new form.
